UNEP Regional Seas Programme

  • Provides financial help and technical advice to countries interested in working together to manage and protect their shared marine resources.

Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association

  • Non-governmental organization whose goal is the sustainable use and conservation of marine resources through the educational, scientific and technological development of marine science in the Western Indian Ocean.

Indian Ocean Tuna Commission

  • An inter-governmental organization formed to manage tuna and billfish in the Indian Ocean and adjacent seas.
  • Responsibilities include monitoring of stocks and socioeconomic impacts, sharing of information, research, and implementation of conservation and management initiatives.

South West Indian Ocean Fisheries Project

  • An organization whose members, including Comoros Islands, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, and the Seychelles, are working together, along with the GEF and UNDP, to study the Agulhas and Somali Current LMEs, increase knowledge of these regions, and use an ecosystem based approach to manage regional marine resources.
